Robins (Reception)

Diwali 18.11.20

Today the Robins have been learning about Diwali, otherwise known as the Hindu Festival of Lights. We heard the story of Rama and Sita and then watched a short clip of how a little girl called Jessica and her family prepare for the celebration.

Together we made a big Rangoli pattern on the playground, before some of the children decided to paint a design or draw one with chalk. We looked at photographs of hands decorated with mehndi patterns and some children had a go at designing their own.

If you want to have a look at any of the videos again, they can be found here https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/watch/lets-celebrate-diwali
Remembrance Day 11.11.20

Today we have been learning about Remembrance Day. We read a story called ‘Where the Poppies Now Grow’ and printed our own class poppy wreath. At 11am we completed 2 minutes silence, as did the rest of the school. We also looked at photographs of poppy wreaths that have been put on our village war memorial. Finally we watched a short animation created by CBeebies that shares the idea of war from the perspective of animals in the fields during WWI.
