Hemsby Primary is a thriving school offering your child an excellent start.  The governors work closely with the headteacher and the dedicated staff who are committed to ensuring each pupil is given the opportunity to fulfil their potential, make them confident, sensitive to others, interested in the world around them and prepared for the challenges ahead.

Our governing body is a group of like-minded people whose aim is to provide an excellent school and a safe, happy and caring environment in which to learn.  The team of governors are here to make sure that the school’s performance is evaluated and continuously improves, to ensure legal obligations are met and that the school keeps abreast of whatever challenges come along.  Essentially, we care about the school and want it to succeed.

We try to attend as many school events as possible, so do look out for us and have a chat.

Helen Wardale – Chair of Governors

I have become chair of governors in December 2022, currently I live in North Walsham but have lived in Norwich most of my life.  I have been a school governor since 1997, in infant, primary, Junior, and secondary schools within the maintained sector. I have been a chair of governors many times and I have also been a trustee and a chair of a local governing board within a MAT.

I have worked for Norfolk County Council for the last 30 years, currently I am the lead for school governance within Children’s Services and manage a team providing support and training for school governors across Norfolk.

I am delighted to be working with Hemsby Primary school and my fellow governors on the board. Although I don’t live locally Hemsby has a special place in my heart, I have fond childhood memories of visiting this beautiful place for many summers in the past. I have three grown up children, three cats and my latest addition is a rescue dog from Romanian which keeps me busy when I am not working.

Kathryn Hewitt

Being a former pupil of Hemsby Primary School, I’ve been passionate and proud of our village school for as long as I can remember. After graduating from University with a BSc (Hons) Psychology degree, I have worked in the Probation Service for over 17 years. Now my own children are attending Hemsby Primary School and beginning their own educational journey. I became a Governor in February 2019 and have responsibilities for Safeguarding.

I pride myself in being approachable and open in my Governor role and love being involved with the ongoing Hemsby Primary School journey. If you need anything, or if I can help, just ask!

Steven Beales

I have been a Governor at Hemsby Primary since 2018. I joined because I liked the idea of helping my local school to be one that provided an outstanding education to the children in our local community, and surrounding area. I am currently the Governor for SEN.

Christopher Chryssafi

Hi, my name is Chris Chryssafi. I have been a school governer since 2021. I have a background in catering and commercial property management. I hope to use this experience during my time as governor. I have lived in Hemsby for 10 years and appreciate the importance of  our school as an essential part of the wider community.

Julia Wacey

I am Julia Wacey, an ex Hemsby Primary pupil. I have lived in the area all my life and love the school, the village and all it has to the offer. I have worked in education for the past 22 years and I am currently the Safeguarding Governor.  I am quite happy to answer any questions that you may have.
