Swallows (Year 5)

Myself and Mrs England are both extremely excited to welcome the Swallows back to school this year.

We have a really great term to look forward to with lots of fun activities planned.  Our first Science topic of the year is on our Earth and the Solar System, and we are hoping to inspire the next generation of budding astronauts.  This really is one topic the children seem to love and we cannot wait to explore the wonderful mysteries of our universe.  As a history topic we will be looking at the lives of the Victorians and how the advent of the railways changed people's lives forever.

Your children have clearly spent lots of time reading this summer and I am absolutely thrilled by this.  Regular reading is one of the key ingredients of academic success and the Swallows seem to love their reading!  We are encouraging the children to jot down in their homework diaries every time they read at home so that we can share in their enjoyment of books.

In English this term we will be looking to become better at both narrative and non-fiction writing and we will try our best to improve our spellings throughout the year.  Homework is given out on a Friday and then collected in the following Friday, and will often include spellings and a piece of English or Maths.  We will also be introducing some exciting homework projects, so look out for those!

Please come and see us if you have any questions, concerns or anything you would like to share.  Our door is always open
